Porch Stabilization on Edgerton

Edgerton Porch Before

The intricate woodwork on the front porch was in great disrepair

The front porch on this Queen Anne style house on Edgerton Street in the Payne Avenue neighborhood was falling off the house. Aditionally, the character of the house was covered by 1950s-style aluminum siding. The Restore Saint Paul loan program provided the homeowners with a low-interest loan and technical assistance to help stabilize the porch and replace the siding.

The porch restoration has been a team effort. Historic Saint Paul’s preservation consultant, Bob Roscoe, drafted intricate architectural drawings to guide the renovation. The general contractor, City Venture, went to great lengths to rebuilt the porch’s delicate structure. The homeowners themselves did much of the stripping and painting of the woodwork.

This Restore Saint Paul project will soon be completed with the application of a carefully crafted paint palette. With assistance from Historic Saint Paul, the property owners have succeeded in restoring the former glory of this remarkable East Side house.
