The following organizations have financial assistance programs for home and business restorations:

  • Historic Saint Paul

The Restore Saint Paul loan program assists property owners in preserving and restoring the historic character of buildings in Saint Paul. Though Restore Saint Paul, Historic Saint Paul provides targeted financial and technical assistance to owners of residential and commercial buildings in the Dayton’s Bluff, Frogtown and Payne-Phalen neighborhoods.

The Minnesota Housing Finance Agency offers products and services to help Minnesotans buy and fix up their homes.

Fix-Up Fund Loans: The MHFA provides loans at below market interest rates to homeowners for improvements to single family homes.

Rehabilitation Loan Program: The Rehabilitation Loan program assists low to moderate income homeowners in financing home improvements that directly affect the safety, habitability, energy efficiency and accessibility of their homes.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving historic places and revitalizing America’s communities, has several types of financial assistance available to nonprofit organizations, public agencies, for-profit companies, and individuals involved in preservation-related projects. The National Park Service and the Internal Revenue Service jointly manage the federal historic preservation tax credit program. The preservation tax credits reward private investment in rehabilitating historic properties such as offices, rental housing, and retail stores.

Historic Saint Paul and Sherwin Williams have partnered to provide discounts of up to 35 percent on paint and supplies. The discount is available to participants in the Restore Saint Paul loan program and donors to Historic Saint Paul.
