The front porch on this Queen Anne style house on Edgerton Street in the Payne Avenue neighborhood was falling off the house. Aditionally, the character of the house was covered by 1950s-style aluminum siding. The Restore Saint Paul loan program provided the homeowners with a low-interest loan and technical assistance to help stabilize the porch and replace the siding. Historic Saint Paul’s preservation consultant, Bob Roscoe, drafted intricate architectural drawings to guide the renovation. The general contractor, City Venture, went to great lengths to rebuilt the porch’s delicate structure. The homeowners themselves did much of the stripping and painting of the woodwork.
